My Spirit Guides – The Unseen Friends Who Walk Beside Me
There is something incredibly special about the relationship we develop with our spirit guides. For me, this connection has never simply been about asking for guidance or receiving the occasional sign. It is something that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. In many ways, my guides have always felt like my unseen friends: quietly walking beside me, encouraging me, reassuring me and helping me navigate both my personal life and my spiritual development.
I've felt connected to my guides since I was a child. Although I may not always have understood what that connection meant, there was a familiarity about it, a sense that I was never quite alone. As I've grown older and developed my mediumship and spiritual awareness, that relationship has naturally deepened. I have a much more conscious and beautiful working relationship.
And one thing I've come to appreciate is that blending with my spirit guides feels quite different to the blending I experience when working with mediumship.
The difference between blending with my guides and blending in mediumship
When I work with mediumship, I become aware of the energy of the spirit communicator coming forward. There is often a recognisable difference in the way that energy feels, the way it presents itself and how I begin to perceive the individual. There can be changes in sensation, awareness, emotion and the overall feeling of the connection.
When I blend with my spirit guides, however, there is something subtly different.
Their energy can feel familiar, reassuring and deeply comforting. It is almost as though I am settling into a familiar space, rather than meeting someone new. There is a particular quality to the connection that I recognise, although each guide may bring their own individual energy and personality.
I don't necessarily experience it as something dramatic. Sometimes it is incredibly gentle. Other times, the presence feels much stronger, particularly when I take time to sit quietly, move into my own power and become fully receptive to their presence.
It is a blending that feels less about communicating a message to someone else and more about developing a relationship, understanding and trust.
Over time, I've learned that recognising these subtle differences is an important part of my own spiritual awareness and development.
Guidance that always comes from a place of love
One of the things I value most about my guides is the way they offer guidance.
I don't see them as beings who are here to dictate every decision I make or tell me exactly how my life should unfold. Instead, their guidance often comes through gentle encouragement, inspiration, little nudges and sometimes very clear signs that help me recognise the direction I need to take.
Of course, there are times when I feel they are very much steering me towards something, perhaps encouraging me to take a particular opportunity, change my approach or trust something that I might otherwise question.
But even when their guidance feels particularly strong, there is always a feeling of love behind it.
I believe our guides want us to grow, learn and become the best versions of ourselves. They don't remove the lessons we need to experience, and they don't take away our ability to make our own choices. Instead, they help us see things differently, recognise opportunities and sometimes understand why something is happening in our lives.
Their guidance isn't always about telling us what we want to hear, either. Sometimes it is about encouraging us to look within, recognise where we might need to change and have the courage to move forward.
For me, the most beautiful thing is knowing that the guidance comes from a place of unconditional love, patience and encouragement.
My guides and the work I do with my students
My relationship with my guides is also a huge part of the work I do when teaching.
When I work with students, I want to be able to give each individual what they need at that particular moment in their development. Every student is different. We all learn differently, we all have different strengths, and we all have areas where we need a little more encouragement or understanding.
This is where I feel my guides play such an important role.
When I settle into my power and become receptive to their presence, I often find that the words come naturally. I might find myself explaining something in a particular way, asking a question I hadn't consciously thought of beforehand or recognising that a student needs a different approach to the one I had originally planned.
Sometimes it is about encouraging someone who is doubting themselves. Other times, it might be about challenging a student to step outside their comfort zone or helping them recognise something they haven't yet acknowledged in their own development.
I believe my guides help me become more receptive to what is needed in those moments.
It isn't about taking away my responsibility as a teacher. It is about working in partnership, allowing my intuition, experience and spiritual connection to come together so that I can support each student as effectively as possible.
There is something incredibly rewarding about those moments when you realise that exactly the right words have come at exactly the right time.
The signs that reassure me I'm on the right path
I sit within my own power, allowing myself to become quiet, still and receptive.
These moments are important to me because they give me the opportunity to strengthen my connection without necessarily having an expectation of what will happen.
Quite often, my guides will come forward through little signs and experiences that I interpret as reassurance.
Sometimes it might be something I see, something I hear, a particular sensation or a meaningful coincidence that seems to arrive at just the right moment. Other times, it is simply that familiar feeling of their presence.
These experiences can be particularly meaningful when I'm questioning something, working through a period of change or wondering whether I'm moving in the right direction with my spiritual development.
I don't believe we should spend our lives constantly searching for signs or relying on them to make every decision. We have our own free will, our own judgement and our own responsibility for the paths we choose.
But I do believe that sometimes a little reassurance can make all the difference.
For me, these moments are reminders to trust the work I'm doing, remain committed to my development and continue following the path that feels right in my heart.
Going deeper through trance and the blending process
One of the most fascinating aspects of my relationship with my guides is the development of my trance work.
As I've continued to sit in trance, I've become increasingly aware of how the blending process changes and deepens over time.
Each time I sit, I feel that the connection develops a little further. It isn't necessarily about having a particular experience every time, but about allowing myself to surrender more fully to the process, trusting the connection and becoming increasingly receptive to the energy coming forward.
There is a real difference between simply relaxing and allowing a deeper blending to take place.
As the trance deepens, my awareness of my surroundings can become increasingly distant, while my awareness of the connection becomes much more prominent. I experience this as a gradual movement into a deeper state of consciousness, where the blending feels more complete and immersive.
At times, the depth of the trance has been such that afterwards I have found my eyes difficult to open immediately. It is an unusual sensation and something that has made me reflect on just how deeply I am entering into the experience.
I don't see this as a measure of how advanced someone is, or as something that should be forced or chased. Trance development is personal, and I believe it is important to allow it to unfold naturally, with patience, trust and appropriate guidance.
But I do feel that something is developing within my own work.
I have a strong feeling that this deeper blending is part of a journey towards what I believe may ultimately be physical mediumship. I am careful not to assume that I know exactly where the journey will lead, but I am excited by the possibilities and fascinated by the way the connection continues to evolve.
For now, my responsibility is to keep sitting, keep learning, remain grounded and allow whatever is meant to develop to do so in its own time.
The comfort of knowing I'm not alone
Of course, my guides aren't only part of my spiritual work.
They are also part of my personal life.
Like everyone, I have moments of sadness, uncertainty, frustration and upset. There are times when life feels a little heavier, when things don't go as planned or when I simply need a little comfort.
During those moments, I often find myself turning inwards and becoming aware of their presence.
Sometimes the comfort comes through a feeling of peace. Sometimes it is a sense of reassurance that things will be okay, even if I cannot see how just yet. And sometimes it is simply the feeling that I am not facing everything alone.
I don't expect my guides to take away the difficult experiences in life. I believe we are here to experience, learn and grow through all aspects of being human.
But there is something very special about feeling supported through those experiences.
It reminds me that spiritual connection isn't just about what happens when we sit in a development circle, practise mediumship or enter a trance state. It can be part of our everyday lives, woven into the ordinary moments as well as the extraordinary ones.
Sometimes the greatest gift isn't a message or a sign. It is simply the comfort of feeling loved and supported.
A relationship built on trust, love and continued development
When I look back at my journey, from those early feelings of connection as a child to where I am now, I realise just how much my relationship with my guides has evolved.
They have become my unseen friends, my companions in development and an important part of the work I do.
They help me reflect, encourage me to keep learning, support me in my teaching and offer reassurance when I need it most.
But perhaps the most important thing I've learned is that this relationship is never finished.
Just as we continue to develop our mediumship, we also continue to develop our awareness, our understanding and our ability to blend with the energy we believe is around us.
There is always more to learn. More to experience. More to understand.
I don't believe we should become so focused on reaching the next stage of development that we forget to appreciate the connection we already have.
For me, it is about enjoying the relationship, trusting the process and remaining open to whatever comes next.
My guides have been part of my story for as long as I can remember, and I feel incredibly fortunate to continue exploring where that connection may lead.
Perhaps that is the real beauty of working with spirit guides. It isn't simply about receiving guidance. It is about developing a relationship built on trust, love and a shared journey of growth.
And sometimes, knowing that those unseen friends are walking beside us is more than enough.
