When Spirit Guides the Teaching: Opening Doors to Greater Awareness and Spiritual Development

There is something incredibly special about being guided by Spirit in the work that we do, particularly when it comes to teaching, spiritual development and helping others understand themselves on a much deeper level.

Over 15 years, I've been taught by spirit to teach listening to them, this enables me to allow them to give you what you need to allow you the space to develop to your greatest potential, the things I bring into a conversation, and even the questions I feel prompted to ask are not always simply coming from my own conscious thought. Spirit are always prompting me, directing me and guiding me towards something that needs to be said, explored or brought into someone's awareness.

And always, precisely the information that someone needs to hear at that particular moment.

It's not necessarily about telling someone something they don't already know. Sometimes, it's about helping them recognise something they've never quite seen, understood or connected with before.

Teaching beyond the surface

When we are developing spiritually, whether that is through mediumship, trance, working with our own psyche or exploring our wider spiritual awareness, it's easy to become focused on what we are trying to achieve.

We may be concentrating on developing our sensitivity, strengthening our connection, deepening our communication, expanding our awareness or moving towards the next stage of our development.

But sometimes, the very thing that is preventing us from moving forward isn't a lack of ability, knowledge or potential.

It may be something much less obvious.

It could be a belief we have carried for years, an unconscious expectation, a fear, a previous experience, a misunderstanding of how something works, or simply a way of thinking that we have never stopped to question.

Sometimes, we become so accustomed to approaching our development in a particular way that we don't even realise there are other possibilities available to us.

This is where teaching can become so much more than simply passing on information.

It becomes about opening doors.

The information Spirit prompts us to explore

One of the things I find particularly meaningful is when I feel prompted to introduce information that may not appear directly connected to what someone initially believes they need help with.

Perhaps there is something within their thinking, their understanding or their approach that needs to be explored first.

Perhaps there is a particular block, an assumption or an area of their own psyche that they haven't recognised.

And sometimes, by bringing that information forward, it creates an opportunity for them to look at things differently.

I might explain something, ask a question, introduce a different perspective or encourage someone to consider an aspect of their development that they hadn't previously thought about.

Then suddenly, something clicks.

That light-bulb moment.

The moment when someone says, "Oh! I hadn't thought about it like that before."

And that moment can be incredibly valuable.

Because it isn't necessarily that anything new has been given to them. It may be that something they already knew, felt or experienced has finally fallen into place.

They can begin to recognise what may have been holding them back, what they might need to reconsider, or where there may be another avenue for exploration.

Understanding what may be holding us back

Our spiritual development isn't always about adding more.

Sometimes, it is about understanding what is already there.

We can spend so much time trying to develop our abilities that we overlook the importance of understanding ourselves along the way.

Our thoughts, emotions, expectations, perceptions, experiences and beliefs can all influence how we approach our development.

For example, in mediumship, we might question whether we are receiving information correctly, whether we are interpreting something accurately, or whether we are allowing ourselves to trust the process.

In trance development, we might become focused on the depth of the experience, the quality of the connection or what we believe should be happening.

But have we explored the expectations we are bringing into that experience?

Have we considered whether we are placing unnecessary pressure on ourselves?

Are we approaching our development with preconceived ideas about what it should look or feel like?

Are there aspects of our own psyche that would benefit from greater understanding?

These are important questions, because sometimes the next step in our development isn't about pushing harder. It is about understanding more.

And when we begin to understand more, we can create the opportunity for change.

The power of a light-bulb moment

I think one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is witnessing those moments when something suddenly makes sense to someone.

It might be a different way of understanding their mediumship, a new perspective on trance, a realisation about their own thought processes, or an awareness of something that has been influencing their development without them recognising it.

That moment of recognition can change the way they approach their work.

It can encourage them to revisit something they previously struggled with, explore a different possibility, or begin working with an aspect of themselves that they may have overlooked.

And importantly, it gives them something they can take away and work with independently.

The intention isn't to create dependence on a teacher or to suggest that someone else holds all the answers.

Quite the opposite.

It's about helping people discover more of their own understanding, recognise their own potential and become increasingly confident in exploring their own development.

A good teaching moment doesn't simply provide an answer. It can create a whole new set of possibilities.

Expanding awareness through understanding ourselves

Spiritual development and personal development are not necessarily separate journeys.

The more we understand ourselves, the more opportunities we may have to recognise how we approach our spiritual work.

Exploring our own psyche, recognising habitual patterns of thinking, questioning our assumptions and becoming more aware of our internal responses can all form valuable parts of that journey.

This is particularly relevant when developing mediumship and trance.

Rather than simply concentrating on the external aspects of what we are doing, we can also turn our attention inwards.

What are we experiencing?

How are we interpreting it?

What expectations are we bringing?

What might we be overlooking?

What else could be possible if we approached this from a different perspective?

These questions encourage curiosity rather than limitation.

They allow us to explore without immediately deciding that something is right, wrong, possible or impossible.

And sometimes, simply allowing ourselves to consider another perspective is the beginning of a significant shift.

Following the guidance and allowing the teaching to unfold

For me, there is something particularly meaningful about recognising those moments when Spirit seems to prompt me towards a subject, an explanation or a particular area of exploration.

I may have an idea of what I want to teach, but there are times when the teaching unfolds in a different direction because something else needs to be brought into the conversation.

It is about being receptive, remaining open and allowing the information to develop naturally.

Not forcing an outcome, not assuming that everyone needs the same information, but recognising that each person has their own experiences, challenges, questions and opportunities for growth.

I believe teaching should encourage people to think, explore, question and discover.

It should help them look beyond what they currently understand and recognise that there may be other ways of approaching their development.

And if something I share creates that moment of recognition, that little shift in perspective, or that realisation that helps someone move beyond a perceived limitation, then that is something truly worthwhile.

There is always more to explore

Our spiritual development is not necessarily a straight line, nor is it something that can be measured simply by how much we can do or how far we believe we have progressed.

There are layers of understanding, experiences to explore and perspectives that can continue to evolve.

Sometimes we need encouragement.

Sometimes we need information.

Sometimes we need to question what we have always believed.

And sometimes we simply need someone to introduce an idea that allows us to see something from an entirely different angle.

Those moments can open up possibilities we hadn't previously considered.

They can help us work through what may be holding us back, deepen our understanding of ourselves and approach our spiritual work with greater awareness, confidence and curiosity.

Ultimately, that is what I hope my teaching achieves.

Not simply to give people information, but to help them discover what that information might mean for them.

To encourage them to explore their mediumship, their trance, their spiritual awareness and their own psyche with an open mind.

To recognise that development isn't always about striving to become something more. Sometimes it is about understanding what is already within us, what may be influencing us, and what we can do with that awareness.

And perhaps that is one of the most beautiful aspects of being guided in teaching: recognising that the right information, offered at the right moment, can become the catalyst for someone to see themselves, their abilities and their possibilities in a completely different light.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one piece of information, one different perspective or one light-bulb moment to open a door that someone didn't even realise was there.

And once that door is open, the possibilities for further exploration and development can begin.
